If the roof of your garage or any other flat roofed building is leaking you can spend quite a long time attempting to locate the source of the leak. Patching holes with a sealant can be a job and the fix might not continue, so why not fit an EPDM membrane to the roof?

The first step prepares the flat roof for the membrane. As the membrane has to be employed to a flat as well as surface, you need to cover the present felt roof with plywood. Then make sure before the membrane is applyed by you that the plywood surface is clear of dust and dirt.

The membrane must be laid onto the roof and allowed to 'relax' in to place. After thirty minutes, you may be able to roll a piece of it straight back and apply a water based adhesive to the surface of the roof. After which you carefully lay the membrane onto the adhesive. Once in place, use a soft broom to push any air bubbles out.

To finish the roof, you may have to add gutter trims to the edges. To do so, pull the membrane taut and nail it to the roof. Then apply the gutter trim, which is also nailed in. You need to keep a gap of at least 5mm involving the trims to allow for expansion and contraction.

Sealing a flat roof does perhaps not have to simply take long and does not demand expert knowledge or specialist tools. A large amount of the stages are easy to follow and with respect to the size of the roof, this may be a one person occupation. Once set up, the EPDM membrane will shield and seal for decades and, apart from an annual inspection, you will not need to hold out any maintenance. flat roof
