Freshly built homes have high quality control requirements, newer design methods, and better power efficiency than many older homes. They often bring good money alternatives and a 1+ year guarantee. The downside is that while they are easy to get into, it's very difficult to offer them for a few years (particularly if the contractor remains in the neighborhood), and the ultimate value is often higher than an older house (though they often need very little up-front money, and many contractors will give thousands of pounds of updates and incentives.) The neighborhood will not be founded, there will be very few shade trees like in an older neighborhood, and it'll do have more of a frontier experience. If you like new and shiny like a new car, then the clean smell of a new house is going to be your point.
Current Homes
They are owned by homeowners who want to sell their houses. They have been experienced, and might be better constructed than newer homes. Many people like the fact that they have the history and charm of experiencing been lived in - in fact, several consumers think that a brand new home is "cold" if it hasn't been lived in. What their age is gives them respectability, and they're in established neighborhoods with high trees and schools and established neighbors. They may be funky/customized with interesting quirks. These are for folks who like "established" OR "different." They're easier to sell soon after you get one. Many also take a 1-year warranty. They may not attract people who like being the initial in a property or who need one built specifically for them.
Which can you like better - New or Existing? People who like one may perhaps not like another, although there are numerous conditions who like both.
